I make autobiographical figurative sculpture working mostly in the ceramics medium. I am drawn to the immediacy, tangibility and interactivity of collectible objects, they carry a presence that contribute to our sense of place in the world and our associated emotions. The objects we collect tell a personal story and have a powerful connection to memory and because they can be touched and held they make our memories as real as we are.
Much of the content of my work explores the transition between youth and adulthood. A child’s emerging identity, the challenges faced as children grow that can impact mental health, a sense of self-worth and an understanding of place in the world. Based on my own life and the lives of people around me. In my work I interpret an individuals reactions to those challenges and try to understand the tools employed for self-preservation and personal growth.
